Reflections

I didn’t realize how long ago, but a while ago I found a post on The Homeschool Diva that I wanted to participate in. It was one of those “tag you’re it” posts. She was tagged by One Thoughtful Momma.
1. What one thing could you do this year to increase your enjoyment of God?
Spending more time in worship. True worship opens the heart and I find myself ready to hear His guidance, love or conviction (whichever I am in need of). I am becoming more aware of worship and its effect in the church setting. In my relatively short church life I have seen churches who truly understood the power and necessity of worship. The worship leaders were not performing, they were worshipping God and that brought the congregation to worship naturally. On the other hand, I have seen “worship leaders” who tried to command the congregation to worship, telling them they are not loud enough or whatnot. I once heard the comment that in a church, you can not rise above the leadership. I am finding that more and more true as time goes by.
Sorry for the tangent, it’s been on my mind a lot lately.
2. What is the single most important thing to increase your family time this year?
I don’t think there is one single “thing” that will increase our family time. However, hubby and I have made the commitment to spend more time with out children and family. Actually, renewed our commitment is more like it. My husband has turned down side work, music opportunities and other various things over the years of our marriage because he understands the importance of family and being together. Someone raised him right.
The past year seems to find our family more busy than we have been in the past, so we are renewing our commitment to our family.
3. What one thing could you do to increase your prayer life this year?
Remember on a daily basis to start each morning with prayer. I pray during the day, everyday. Little prayers here and there for kid’s boo-boos, praising God for His protection over my family, rebuking the crap satan tries to fling at us, etc. I also am learning to pray as I hear about a prayer request, sometimes I feel moved to pray with the person, other times I feel pressed to pray in private, but I am learning to do it immediately. I think this is in part so I don’t forget and in part because some prayer requests are time sensitive.
4. What one biblical doctrine do you want to understand better this year, and what are you going to do about it?
There isn’t just one. I want to better understand what the Bible actually says. I will do that by reading and then praying to ask God to help me understand. I encourage you to do the same, stop looking to pastors for all your biblical teaching. Ultimately, it is you who is responsible for your understanding of God’s word. You will be accountable for your beliefs, make sure you are truly understanding what God says in His Word, not what someone else tells you it says or their understanding. Don’t worry, He knows what you know, what you don’t and how quickly or slowly you read and learn. He’s patient. Oh, how I thank Him for His patience.
5. What does your devotion time look like?
It depends. Sometimes I journal, sometimes I read something to inspire me and other times I simply pray. Really, I never thought I would be one that would actually have “devotion time” in my life, it just kind of happened over time. Baby steps.
I am not tagging anyone, but if you want to play along, let me know by leaving a comment below and I will edit this post and send a little link love your way.
God bless,
